upon further review

tonight i not only watched a current show that was just finished (where i was a camera op), i also cracked open the Tome of the Mighty Cweb and checked out some of my oooold videos.

it was interesting giving myself a critique of the camera work, lighting, etc.. most of all, it brought back memories of some really good times. i wish i had realized how much fun i was having back then. it was a great time, that whole year. it also made me realize what a control freak i could be- not that there’s anything wrong with that… ;)

also, we’re gonna give a big PLUG to the great and mighty zoroaster. rock on down there and also give a hit or twelve to my buddies at Gray Tidings. nyce. or to quote myself “in Soviet Russia, nice nices you!”

if you watched “dancing with the stars” this evening, please take a second to stick your head in the oven- and turn it all the way on. if you’re jerry rice, please do this while your lacerated legs flail around on the surface of a shark tank; because even though you can run routes like nobody else, you still aren’t very good at picking ways to spend your time after football.

no, i didn’t mean that. i meant it times twenty-threeve tillion. yes, tillion. is that a number? google/wikipedia it, i don’t have the time.

news of the new

without comments

let’s go for a spin around the world of music for some news on some great new releases!

Hawksley Workman’s latest “Treeful of Starling” is due out on the 28th. it appears to be a return to the simpler side of his music, taking a step or two back from the highly-produced yet brilliant “Lover/Fighter” and making a sort of return to his roots. watch the trailer. this promises to be a beautiful album, and judging from the quality of his previous releases i’m one to believe him.

Ronan Harris announced an experiment that also brings the music back to the past.

“The music from this one-man project uses analog modular synthesizers and analog sequencers for live sound generation. Sequences and sounds are patched, manipulated, effected, re-patched and mixed live.”

his main project, VNV Nation, is currently working on the “Homeward” single off their latest album “Matter + Form.” if you don’t have that album by now, pick it up. riveting soundscapes and inspiring tracks of sheer motion intersperse with moments of tenderness to make it one of VNV’s finest to date.

Tom Shear of Assemblage 23 has begun work on the new album tentatively called “Meta.” his side project Nerve Filter will release its debut album “Linear” on April 21. samples from this highly interesting alter ego can be heard on the official Nerve Filter site.

that’s all for now. check back at 5, when Chef Tony chops his fingers off with the new Miracle Blade 4… now with “bone-slicing action!!!!”

eine kleine rockmusik

it blows my mind when i think about how long David Bowie has had a musical career. he’s been putting out albums since the early 70s, and is still going. the acts and types of albums he’s put out have been stylistically inconsistent, but the quality behind them has always been there. some might argue that he hasn’t put out a good album since the early 80s. i don’t really agree with this, but i can see the mindset behind it. the problem with a change in style is that you’re going to alienate some former fans. (yeah, i know he was Ziggy Stardust, but no pun intended with “alienate.”) that said, a good introduction to Bowie is the two-disc “Best Of Bowie” collection. i’d also recommend “Stage,” which is a remastered version of a show he did in Boston in 1978. it’s a “clean” love recording, but the takes are all fully live- that means no studio re-takes. good stuff.

as i’ve said in other places, pick up New Order’s Substance. not only is it of stylistic importance for any study of modern new rock, but it’s also a fantastic compilation.

also, got to use the protools studio for the first time today. took me about five minutes to figure out the basics and within a half hour i already had two tracks imported and edited with a synth track we just improvised. still gotta figure the drum machine and the sampler out, but overall it was kickass.

back into the depths. time to trade the snorkel for a pressure suit.
